Richard Gabriel, B.Sc, MBA | CEO
From 1998 until 2001 Mr. Gabriel served as Chief Executive Officer and President of Calix Corporation, parent company to Pharm-Eco Laboratories, Inc. He was one of five core team members that set the overall strategic direction for Pharm-Eco Laboratories, Inc. and helped guide Pharm-Eco's high performance self-directed organization. Mr. Gabriel was instrumental in closing and managing over $135 million in contract revenue for Pharm-Eco Laboratories and successfully completed the formation of several joint ventures, limited liability companies and spin-offs that resulted in several public and private companies in the genetics/chemistry/pharmaceutical field. From 2001 until becoming the Chief Executive Officer and President for DNAPrint, he consulted for several start-up companies while working as a partner at Genbiomics, LLC and as head of Life Sciences Practice at Semaphore, Inc. Prior to the formation of his own consulting practice in 1985, Mr. Gabriel was a product manager for W.R. Grace. He obtained his MBA from Suffolk University's Executive MBA Program, Boston, Massachusetts, in 1985, and his B.Sc. in Chemistry from Ohio Dominican College, Columbus, Ohio in 1978.
Laurence Rubin, M.D. | COO
Dr. Rubin was a founder of Ellipsis Biotherapeutics Corp. and has been with the company in a management and board capacity since 2000. In 2004, he along with his colleagues, founded Ellipsis Neurotherapeutics Inc, a new company whose primary goal was the development of novel compounds for the treatment of degenerative neurological disease, specifically Alzheimer’s. In November 2005, Dr. Rubin managed the sale of the original Ellipsis Biotherapeutics Genotyping Service assets, intellectual property portfolio in Crohn's Disease and related content to DNAPrint Genomics of Sarasota, Florida, and stayed on as the Chief Operating Officer of the newly incorporated Ellipsis Bio Inc. and a member of its Board of Directors.
As CEO of Ellipsis Neurotherapeutics Inc , Dr. Rubin was responsible for leading ENI's initial program through compound acquisition and manufacturing as well the preclinical drug development phase, which culminated in the sale of this company in the March 2006 to Transition therapeutics Inc, a TSX listed corporation.
Dr. Rubin is a Rheumatologist, Professor of Medicine and Division Head of Rheumatology at Saint Michael's Hospital, a leading Canadian academic Health Science Centre.
Ramona Coopersotck, Ph.D. | Manager, Genotyping Services
Dr. Cooperstock completed her B.Sc. in Biochemistry at the University of Victoria. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Toronto on RNA regulation during Drosophila embryonic development. She was a Research Associate at the University of Toronto where she developed a functional genomics project for the model organism C. elegans. Dr. Cooperstock has an extensive background in Molecular Biology and Genomics as well as in project development and management. Dr. Cooperstock joined Ellipsis in January 2006. Her broad experience and skills in molecular biology are a critical asset to advising, designing and interpreting our clients' genotyping and related service needs. She was recently responsible for the successful launch of our new services in whole genome genotyping analyses and expression.
Naz Jiwani, BBA, CIRM | Controller
Mr. Jiwani has been with Ellipsis since 2002, and is responsible for financial reporting and investor relations. His longstanding experience in financial risk management and accounting has been a valued asset to the operations.
Matt Thomas, Ph.D. | Scientific Advisor
Dr. Thomas has been with DNAPrint since 2001. During his time with DNAPrint, Dr. Thomas has been involved with the research and development of a number of projects, including AncestrybyDNA 2.5, EuroDNA, and the forensic versions of those products (DNAWitness, EuroWitness, Retinome). In addition to these products, he has been involved with the pharmaco-genomic research projects undertaken by DNAPrint. Prior to joining DNAPrint, Dr. Thomas was a postdoctoral fellow at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer center where he held a fellowship from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America and was interested in various aspects of cancer research and gene expression. His graduate work was at the Department of Biology and Institute of Molecular Biology at the University of Oregon where he earned his Ph.D. in Biology studying mechanisms of RNA Polymerase II elongation and proofreading. He obtained his B.Sc. in Biological Sciences at University of California, Irvine. Currently Dr. Thomas is a Senior Scientist and Laboratory Manager at DNAPrint.
