TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS
Ellipsis employs two extensively validated SNP genotyping technologies. The formats of these different platforms fit specific study size parameters that enable cost effective genotyping, regardless of the scope and scale of the study being conducted. Clients often find that those projects not well suited to their in-house technology can be more cost effectively completed when outsourced to Ellipsis. For those with no current in-house capability, Ellipsis provides guidance on selection of SNP panel sizes that maximize the amount of data generated with the most cost effective technology.
Targeted and Candidate Gene Studies: For targeted studies with small to moderate numbers of SNPs, Ellipsis utilizes the Beckman Coulter SNPstream® System. This platform is based on single-base primer extension technology performed in either a 12-plex or 48-plex format. The system is ideal for custom-designed SNP genotyping panels, and has proven to be effective at generating highly robust and reliable assay data across a variety of species and application types.
Genome-wide and High-Density Mapping Studies:For more exploratory or genome-wide studies with larger numbers of SNPs, Ellipsis utilizes the Illumina Beadstation™ system. This platform is based on an allele-specific extension ligation (GoldenGate) technology in a highly multiplexed format of at least 96 and up to 1,536 SNP assays per well. This system can incorporate custom SNP assays and is also ideal for genome-wide, high-density chromosomal or regional human SNP panels. This technology has made a significant contribution to the Human HapMap project and is also in use at many research facilities globally.
